How to choose the right diaper size

Adult sizing runs on waist measurement rather than weight, and that difference matters more than most people expect.

When someone tells us a product leaked, the first question we ask is about the size. Most of the time that is where the problem is. An absorbent core can only do its job if the product is sitting where it should.

Measure the waist, not the weight

Adult diaper sizing runs on waist measurement. Two people at the same weight can be two sizes apart depending on where they carry it, so weight based guessing goes wrong often.

  1. Use a cloth measuring tape. A piece of string marked with a pen and then held against a scale works fine too.
  2. Measure around the waist at the level of the navel.
  3. Keep the tape snug but not tight. You should be able to slide one finger underneath.
  4. Measure over light clothing or bare skin, not over a thick kurta.
  5. Measure standing if the person can stand comfortably. If they cannot, measure lying down and expect the number to be very slightly larger.

The Aaegis Secure ranges

SizeWaist
M70 to 115 cm, which is 28 to 45 inches
L100 to 150 cm, which is 39 to 59 inches
XL120 to 170 cm, which is 47 to 67 inches

XXL for 150 to 180 cm is coming soon. The ranges overlap on purpose, because comfort within a range is not identical for everyone.

When the measurement sits between two sizes

Go up, in most cases. A slightly larger product with the tapes brought in firmly is more comfortable than a smaller one stretched to its limit. A stretched product also loses its shape faster and sits badly at the legs, which is exactly where leaks start.

The exception is a very thin, mostly bedbound person. There, a size too large leaves gaps at the thigh and the product moves when they are turned. Snug wins in that case.

Check the legs, not the waist. The elastic at the leg openings should follow the crease of the thigh with no gaping and no digging. That single check prevents most side leaks.

Signs the size is wrong

  • Too small: red marks at the waist or thighs, tapes pulling to their very edge, the product feeling tight at the front, leaks that happen while sitting.
  • Too large: gaps at the leg, the product sliding down, having to pull it up repeatedly, leaks that happen when the person turns over.

Buy one pack first

Before ordering a month's supply, buy a single pack of ten and check the fit across a full day and a full night. The right size is the cheapest change you can make, because a well fitting product gets used for the hours it was designed for instead of being changed early.

Use the calculator on our size guide to check a measurement in seconds, or send it to us on WhatsApp and we will tell you which size to order.

Guidance from our care team rather than medical advice. A doctor or nurse can advise on absorbency for a specific condition.
